Visiting Homebound & Nursing Homes
This ministry could involve going alone or as part of a team through the Friendship Committee to visit church members who are residents in local care facilities.
Devotions for Nursing Home Residents
Pastors and lay people from First Church conduct devotions on a monthly basis at several local care facilities. These times include singing, reading scripture, and visiting with residents.
This is a ministry of presence and caring. After training, Stephen Ministers are assigned a care receiver with whom they will visit on a regular basis. Supervisory sessions and follow-up training are held periodically in support of the Stephen Minister.
Bereavement Ministry Team
During times of bereavement, First Church wants to respond in appropriate and caring ways. Can you help with a meal for the family, or do errands, or house sit, or do follow-up support with calls, notes and prayers?
Deliver Worship Service Tapes
First Church provides tapes of our weekly worship services to our homebound and nursing home residents. Each volunteer will visit and deliver these tapes to one or more church members on a weekly basis.
Sunday Morning Prayer Time
Can you give some time on Sunday morning to be part of a prayer group that is praying for the needs of our church?
Send Cards to Homebound or Sick
Sometimes the most important ministry is to let people know that they are being cared for and loved, especially in a difficult time. A card ministry is one way to share such a blessing.
Neighborhood Care Group Leader
First Church established a network of neighborhood care groups as a means of staying in touch with church members. These groups consist of members who live in a designated neighborhood or geographical area. The group leader will coordinate any fellowship-type events, strive to be aware of particular needs of church members, and work to provide meals or assistance as needed.
Pray for Others and Your Church
There are constant needs and challenges that First Church is facing. Praying for those who are ill or grieving, praying for the ministers and leaders, praying for the choir and teachers, praying for our children and youth, praying for God's vision; all of these are needful and important.
Helping Hands Ministries
There is always a need for "helping hands" around First Church, such as shopping for the homebound, helping provide transportation for a doctor visit or to church, doing minor handyman repairs, running errands for homebound or sick, taking care of plants or light yard work, etc.
