First United Methodist Church is a Stephen Ministry church. Stephen Ministry is a program and ministry of our church that equips lay persons to provide distinctively Christian care (one-on-one) to persons who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances. The Stephen Series provides congregations with the structure, training, and resources to set up and administer a complete system for lay caring ministry (called Stephen Ministry) in the congregation.

Stephen Ministers are committed Christians who…
- Express God’s care through their lives to others

Receive 50 hours training in important caring ministry skills

Are commissioned as Stephen Ministers after completing their training

Visit their care- receivers regularly and offer Christian support and care

Participate in regular supervision and support groups

Are committed to preserving the confidential nature of the caring relationship
