Putting Our Gifts & Graces to Use

“For as in one body we have many members, and all the members do not have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ…Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them.” Romans 12:4- 6

First Church is blessed in so many ways. And one of the chief blessings is having so many people who are offering their gifts and graces—their time, talents, financial gifts, and prayers—to build up this Body of Christ.

Paul talks about just how important these gifts and graces are to the life of every church. Writing to the Christians in Rome, he implies, first of all, that every Christian has a God-given gift or, in lots of cases, numerous gifts. No one is left out as far as having some gift that God can use. Second, Paul makes it very clear that we are to use our gifts for the good of the church and to bless others. When we make our vows as members of Christ’s church, we are promising to serve Him with the best we have to offer.

Our church is taking seriously the call to go into the world and serve Christ. Each year, more and more of our members have stepped up to offer their “gifts,” large and small. And God has received those offerings, blessed and multiplied them, and then used them to make a difference in the lives of people and in the life of our church. But what will make us an even stronger church is having even more of our members answer the call to serve, to share our gifts and graces in and through this Body of Christ in ways we have not done before.

This “catalog” of opportunities for Christian service lists many areas and ministries where you might give of your time and talents in serving Jesus. Look it over. I am sure you will find a place for Jesus to use you. Print out the gifts of service form and return to the church office, or contact one of our ministers for more informtion.
