McCrary School Tutoring --- From August - May each year

There are a variety of opportunities to tutor individual or small groups of children, with a choice of grade and time slot. Most people commit to going to the school once a week for about 45 minutes. Central Boys and Girls Club Tutoring --- From August - May each year

First Church volunteers help elementary school students after school with homework or read one-on-one. No special subject skills are needed. Adult Literacy Project --- On Going

We go to Randolph Community College and listen, help and encourage adults learning to read. We may also help them with their GED activities. This is a very rewarding one-on-one project to get involved in. You choose the time and day that you can participate.

Victory Junction Gang Camp --- On Going

A group of volunteers goes to Victory Junction to make beds on several Wednesdays during the fall and through the spring. They meet in the church parking lot at 8:30 am and use the church van and some individual cars to travel to the camp. Contact our This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Prayer Shawl & Knitting Ministry - On Going,  meets monthly

The knitting group meets at 2:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month, except for the summer months. They knit prayer shawls and other items needed in the hospital or the community. Salvation Army -- Bell Ringers, Seasonal -- Angel Tree, Seasonal

Volunteer during the Christmas season as a bell ringer at the Salvation Army kettle. Also, volunteers are needed to distribute donated toys to needy families at the distribution center. Christians United Outreach Center [CUOC] --- On Going

Mission2010JPGThere are various opportunities for volunteers including office work, helping in the food pantry or the CUOC stores. We collect food for CUOC on a monthly basis.

Prison Ministry --- On Going

At the local prison unit, volunteers help prisoners by tutoring or assisting in Bible Studies. Qualified volunteers (6 hours of service on unit) may qualify to take chosen prisoners off the unit for up to 6 hours to attend religious services. Apostles' Build --- On Going

The church is involved in the Apostles Build program, joining with other churches to build a Habitat house. There are a variety of jobs on the construction site for all skill levels and volunteers are also needed to prepare meals.

Meals on Wheels --- On Going

Meals on Wheels is a program where volunteer drivers deliver meals to shut-ins. Volunteers typically work once or twice a month in teams of two people per car. Routes usually have no more than 12 houses. Delivery normally takes about an hour during the morning. There is a need for substitute drivers.

Our Daily Bread

The center provides lunch for those in need on a daily basis from Monday through Friday. Volunteers usually work once a week, either helping to cook [9:00 – 11:00 am] or helping to serve and clean up [11:00 am – 1:00 pm]. There is a need for substitute helpers.CardMinistry

Hospice --- On Going

Hospice needs volunteers to work with patients (training provided by Hospice) or work in the office (filing, answering the phone. etc.)

Family Crisis Center --- On Going

Jeremiah Project --- September

Jeremiah-paintingThis is a one day project that involves people of all ages in our church. We go out into the community to complete painting jobs, cleaning jobs, building jobs. We serve agencies such as Family Crisis Center, CUOC, The Salvation Army and many more. A great day to glorify God, help the needy and build fellowship. Project 5000 --- March & April

This is a Lenten project to fill food boxes that can be given out by CUOC and the Salvation Army to those in need. Relay For Life --- May

Help organize church involvement in Relay for Life by encouraging participation (donors, walkers), collecting memorials, honor gifts, and making arrangements for the tent and refreshments for our church participants at the event.Our Relay for Life Coordinator will provide additional information.

Human Race ---

Mission Work Team --- January (2 weeks)

From time to time there is an opportunity for members to take part in a mission team, which can involve projects in construction, education or medical fields in the USA or abroad. Room In The Inn --- RITI is re-organizing

We participate in the RITI program four weeks each year. Triad Therapy and CUOC (Christians Mission-foodtobeservedUnited Outreach Center) are in charge of the program. Professional counselors are provided by Triad Therapy. First UMC is asked to provide transportation to and from CUOC to the RITI house; and, to provide a nutritious evening meal each night for a week.
